Introduction

The TB1140E electric excavator combines all the proven features of a Huppenkothen excavator, such as smooth hydraulics, high performance and excellent serviceability, with SUNCAR's emission-free electric drive.

Project goals

The aim of this project was the development and realization of an electric 16 t excavator.  For the project, a chassis of a Takeuchi TB1140 was used, which was converted with suitable components that allow the implementation of the electric excavator. These are battery, electric drive, charging solutions and other components necessary for electrification. For this purpose, a morphological analysis of various implementation options was carried out and the most suitable solution was selected.

The main development consisted of the complete design of the TB1140E including component analysis and calculations for various design elements. Furthermore, the thermal management system was calculated and designed for use in Central Europe. The electrical circuitry of the traction battery and the excavator also had to be developed.
The design elements were implemented in a further step by moving them into production and turning data into real components. A test stand was built from parts of the production and further component orders, where the system could be parameterized, commissioned and tested before installation.

After the successful test phase, the system was mounted on the construction machine and put into operation.

Results

The TB1140E electric excavator combines all the proven features of an excavator, such as smooth hydraulics, high performance and excellent serviceability, with SUNCAR's zero-emission electric drive.
The excavator is equipped with a synchronous axial-flow electric motor for higher dynamics and greater torque, as well as a proven and powerful hydraulic system with improved cycle time and efficiency.
The TB1140E is committed to continuous improvement in engineering, environmental efficiency, ergonomics, marketability and operator comfort.


Unique boom flexibility
The large swing angle, to the left and right, allows optimal maneuverability in restricted environments without constant repositioning of the machine.  The large reach at ground level of 8,325 mm and digging depth of 5,270 mm creates excellent working conditions.

Improved hydraulics
With improved hydraulics, the TB1140E provides greater attachment versatility. Users enjoy the TB1140E's smooth operation and high digging power.  The insulated cab provides the comfort needed for a full day's work in rough terrain.

Simple operation
Attachments are controlled by buttons or proportionally to the slider on the joystick. Automated control stops the electric motor at idle, reducing energy consumption. The boom is slewed by a foot pedal.  The travel motors are equipped with impact-resistant valves for smooth starts and stops.
