Electric excavator TB260E

Electric excavator SUNCAR Takeuchi TB260E

Introduction

SUNCAR HK sets new standards in battery-powered excavators with the TB260E. At the same time, Huppenkothen's usual features such as performance, reliability, efficiency and operator friendliness remain fully intact.

Project goals

The goal of this project was the development and realization of an electric 7t excavator. For the project, a chassis of a Takeuchi TB260 was used, which was converted with suitable components that allow the implementation of the electric excavator. These are battery, electric drive, charging solutions and other components necessary for electrification. For this purpose, a morphological analysis of various implementation options was carried out and the most suitable solution was selected.

The main development consisted of the complete design of the TB260E including component analysis and calculations for various design elements. Further, the thermal management system was calculated and designed for use in Central Europe. The electrical circuitry of the traction battery and the excavator also had to be developed.
The design elements were implemented in a further step by moving them into production and turning data into real components. A test stand was built from parts of the production and further component orders, where the system could be parameterized, commissioned and tested before installation.

After the successful test phase, the system was mounted on the construction machine and put into operation. In the meantime, the TB260E has gone into series production and 8 machines are in operation so far.

Results

Emission-free electric drive

The TB260E is driven by an efficient synchronous motor. Due to its emission-free operation, the electric excavator is ideally suited for work in enclosed spaces or in areas where the use of machines with combustion engines is restricted by law.

Charging & cable operation

The mains connection during battery charging as well as in cable operation is made via a standard 400 V / CEE63 plug.  With an appropriate adapter cable, smaller connection sockets can also be used. The internally installed chargers have a charging capacity of 44 kW. This allows the excavator to be charged in 3 hours. The runtime of the excavator in battery mode is 6 hours and more when digging. If the excavator is recharged for an hour over midday, the daily running time increases to 8 hours and more. The additional cable mode ensures the possibility to work around the clock. In both operating modes, full power is available to the excavator.

Hydraulic system

With its four control circuits, the TB260E offers optimum combinability with a wide range of attachments. A liter output of 100 l/min is available on the 1st control circuit, which means that attaching a rootstock tiller or flail mower is no problem. In addition, three circuits are proportionally controlled, enabling precise operation and rapid work. The proven Powertilt swivel device with hydraulic quick-change plate completes the wide range of application possibilities.

Maintenance

The battery and electric motor are maintenance-free and have a long service life. Since the usual maintenance work on the diesel engine is no longer required, the service effort can be reduced considerably. The hydraulic system is maintained as usual.

Simple operation

The newly installed control display features intuitive menu navigation, provides a wealth of information on the status of the machine and allows various functions of the excavator to be switched.
